Unitree G1 Humanoid Robots Showcase Combat Skills & Prepare for Historic Boxing Match

Unitree Robotics is in the final preparations for the world’s first robot boxing match, set to be livestreamed this Sunday, May 25. Ahead of this groundbreaking event, the company demonstrated the combat capabilities of its G1 humanoid robots at a school in Hangzhou City, offering students a thrilling glimpse into the future of robotics. The event doubled as a hands-on science lesson, inspiring young minds with cutting-edge technology.

Unitree Livestream Recap: A voice control demo for the combat robot

The star of the show was Unitree’s G1 robot, a kid-sized humanoid standing at just 1.32 meters tall and weighing around 35 kilograms. Its compact design improves stability, allowing it to recover quickly from balance disruptions—a critical feature for combat scenarios. Unlike larger, bulkier robots, the G1’s agility and lower center of gravity help it avoid frequent falls, even during high-intensity movements like spinning kicks or rapid punches . During the school demonstration, the robots showcased their endurance with a 40-minute jogging session on the basketball court, drawing cheers from amazed students.

The G1’s advanced motion control systems, powered by AI and reinforced by imitation learning, enable fluid, human-like movements. Engineers have trained these robots using vast databases of combat techniques, refining each motion frame by frame to ensure precision . This training will be put to the test in the upcoming boxing match, where G1 robots will face off in a display of agility, resilience, and strategic combat skills.

Unitree’s promotional videos hint at what’s to come: robots performing kung fu-inspired maneuvers, recovering from heavy blows, and even executing kip-ups—a dynamic move where the robot springs back to its feet after being knocked down . The company’s emphasis on durability and real-time adaptability suggests the boxing match will be more than a spectacle; it will highlight how far humanoid robotics has come in mimicking human athleticism.

As the countdown to May 25 begins, the excitement is palpable. Will the G1 robots deliver a knockout performance? Tune in to witness this historic moment in robotics—a fusion of technology, sport, and innovation that could redefine human-robot interaction.
